Short biography

David Shteyngart is a Canadian figure skater from Ottawa, Ontario — the 2022 Canadian National Novice Men's Champion and 2024 national Junior bronze medallist. A Skate Canada NextGen Team athlete from 2022 to 2025 with two ISU Junior Grand Prix assignments, he now competes in senior men's singles and in pairs, and works as a certified regional coach.

Extended biography

David Shteyngart began skating at age four, and trains at the Gloucester Skating Club under head coach Darlene Joseph. He rose through every level of Canadian competition: Eastern Ontario Pre-Juvenile champion (2016), Ontario Novice champion (2021), Skate Canada Challenge champion and Canadian National Novice Men's Champion (2022). Representing Canada, he competed at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Riga (2022) and Osaka (2023) and won the Lake Placid Skating Competition (2023, Junior). In 2024 he won the Skate Canada Challenge and took bronze at the Canadian Championships as a Junior. A four-time Ottawa Sport Award Athlete of the Year and recipient of the Toller Cranston Award and Skate Ontario Skater of the Year (2022), David was a member of Skate Canada's NextGen Team from 2022 to 2025. He now competes in senior men's singles and — in a new chapter — in pairs, while coaching the next generation as a Skate Canada certified regional coach.
